Notes (or Text Notes as I often to refer to them) are a great idea, because they allow you to store all sorts of random information within a contact. You might include store hours for retail establishment, or add things you wish to remember about the person associated with the contact. The uses are endless, but Symbian didn't do a very good job of making the contents of a note available to the user.

ContactsEx solves that problem by displaying notes in a similar manner to postal addresses. Each note is displayed as formatted multi-line text with an associated label. The format of a note is up to you, because you can include carriage returns and blank lines in them.

You can store up to 10 text notes per contact.

Keyboard Behavior

The right softkey will always say Back. Pressing this key returns to the Name Tab.

The up and down cursor keys scroll the screen up and down if the notes consume more than a screenful of space. They have no effect if all of the notes for the current contact fit on a single screen.

The left and right cursor keys are used to move to an adjacent tab. Right moves to the Sundry tab, while left move to the Address tab.

Pressing the TALK key will dial the default phone number of the current contact. However, if the that contact doesn't have a phone number, but it does have an email address, then pressing TALK begins a new email message to the default email address. See the documentation on the #s and Emails tab for details on setting default numbers and addresses. Also see the section on Calling Cards for details on how numbers are dialed.

The END key sends the program to the background and returns the phone to the idle screen. This differs slightly from pressing the Hide softkey, in that the softkey only sends the program to the background.

All other keys have no function in this tab.

Menu Functions

Add New Note: Allows you to add a new note to the contact. This option will not appear if you have already entered all 10 notes for the current contact. See Notes Dialog for details on entering notes.

Edit: Allows you to edit a note. If there is only one note assigned to the contact, then this item will immediately edit that note. However, if there are 2 or more notes assigned to the contact, then a sub-menu will appear with the labels for each of the available notes. Choose the one you wish to edit. See Notes Dialog for details on editing the note.

Delete: Allows you to delete a note. If there is only one note assigned to the contact, then this item will delete that note. However, if there are 2 or more notes assigned to the contact, then a sub-menu will appear with the labels for each of the available notes. Choose the one you wish to delete. In any event, you will be prompted to confirm your action.

Copy to Clipboard: Copies the note, in exactly the format used, to the phone's clipboard. This allows you to paste the address into any other application that offers paste functionality. If there is only one note assigned to the contact, then this item will copy that note. However, if there are 2 or more notes assigned to the contact, then a sub-menu will appear with the labels for each of the available notes. Choose the one you wish to copy.

Change Order: When there 2 or more notes in the current contact you will be able to change their display order. For complete details on using this feature, see Changing Item Order.

Exit: This option terminates the program.
