The Groups tab displays all of the Groups assigned in the phone's contacts database, as well as which of those groups the current contact is presently assigned to.

The Group names listed may or may not have an icon next to them. Those with icons represent the groups the current contact is assigned to. You can quickly change group assignment by scrolling down to the desired group name and pressing the SELECT button. The association to that group will be toggled on or off.

You can also use this tab to globally create or delete Groups.

Keyboard Behavior

The right softkey will always say Back. Pressing this key returns to the Name Tab.

The up and down cursor keys scroll the screen up and down if the Groups consume more than a screenful of space. They have no effect if all of the Groups fit on a single screen.

The left and right cursor keys are used to move to an adjacent tab. Right moves to the Data tab, while left move to the Sundry tab.

Pressing the TALK key will dial the default phone number of the current contact. However, if the that contact doesn't have a phone number, but it does have an email address, then pressing TALK begins a new email message to the default email address. See the documentation on the #s and Emails tab for details on setting default numbers and addresses. Also see the section on Calling Cards for details on how numbers are dialed.

The SELECT button toggles the association of the presently selected Group with the presently selected contact.

The CLEAR key can be used as a shortcut to completely delete the selected Group from the database. You will be asked to confirm you request. Note that deleting a group removes it from the entire database.

The END key sends the program to the background and returns the phone to the idle screen.

All other keys have no function in this tab.

Menu Functions

Add User to Group: If the current group is not associated to the current contact, then this menu item will be present. Selecting it associated the group wit the contact.

Remove User From Group: If the current group is associated to the current contact, then this menu item will be present. Selecting it removes the association. This and the previous menu item merely complement the OK key.

Bulk Assignment: This function allows you to quickly assign (or un-assign) multiple contacts from the currently selected Group. When the function is initiated the screen changes to show a list of contacts. Those contacts with an icon next to them are already assigned to the selected Group. Those with with no icon are not assigned to the Group.

You can press numeric (and/or alpha keys) to narrow the list (just like you did in the Names tab). Regardless of how the list is narrowed, simply move to the contacts you wish to assign or un-assign and press the SELECT button. Repeat this process until you have made all of the changes you need. To exit press the Back softkey.

Remember, you can hold down the shift key (which on non-QWERTY phones is the key with the icon of a pencil on it) while pressing up or down to scroll the list one page at a time.

Send: Opens a sub-menu that contains option to send Email, SMS, MMS, or Audio Notes. Selecting one of these options allows you to send a message to every contact in the currently selected group.

In the case of SMS, MMS, and Audio Notes, only contacts with numbers designated as Mobile or Car will be sent the message. The default number will be used if it is a cell/car phone, otherwise the first cell phone number (based on the order you have sorted the numbers) will be chosen.

In the case of Email, only contacts with email addresses will be sent a message. The default address will be used. Note that the Email feature only works if you are using a version of ContactsEx that you signed yourself, or you are using a cracked phone that can install unsigned applications. The Email feature is unavailable on self-signed copies.

Add New Group: Allows you to add a new group to the database. The new group is added without associating to any existing contacts.

Delete: Deletes the currently selected Group. You will be prompted to confirm your action.

Rename: Renames the current selected Group.

Filter Contacts: Switches you back to the Names tab, which displays only the contacts that are members of the presently-selected Group. A global option tells ContactsEx whether this selection survives until changed, or if it is cleared once the application is hidden.

Exit: This option terminates the program.
