ContactsEx provides a means of changing the
order in which items appear in the various Tabs. This is
in stark contrast to the native phonebook manager, which presents fields
within a contact in seemingly random order. The following 4 tabs can be
sorted into any order that suits your needs: #s
& Emails The editor is also employed to change the order of Number Formats. The mechanism for changing the order of these tabs is implemented as a drag-and-drop scheme using the keypad. Each of these tabs includes a menu option labeled Change Order. When you select this option the items within the current tab will be displayed in a 1-item-per-line format. To move an item, use the up or down cursor keys to position the selector to the item in question. Now press the Grab softkey, or the SELECT button. A purple up-and-down arrow will appear near to the selected item, indicating that it had now been grabbed. Use the up or down cursor keys to move this item to the spot in the list where you want it to go. Now press the Release softkey, or the SELECT button. You can repeat the above process as often as necessary to move more items. Once you are satisfied with the order of the items, press the Done softkey. Note that it isn't necessary to Release the final item. You can simply press Done once the final item has been moved to where you want it to go. The order in which items are displayed could have been stored in a separate file maintained by ContactsEx, but I felt that doing so created a disconnect between the contacts database (maintained by the operating system) and the sort information. I therefore devised a way to store the sort order in the database, thus guaranteeing that the sort order would always survive with the database, even if ContactsEx was completely deleted and then reinstalled. This is achieved by storing a series of number in a Note. These special notes are visible if you view the contact in the native contacts manager, but inside of ContactsEx they do not appear. |
