The database allows the storage of up to 3 addresses per contact. In the native contacts manager these addresses are defaulted to be Home, Work, and non-descript. It is possible to change the label of each element in the database, but doing so from the native editor is time-consuming, because the label of each address element must be edited independently. ContactsEx maintains the native format on individual element labels by putting the selected label in parenthesis after the element type, such as: City (Home) However, you don't need to concern yourself with the individual label names of each element in an address. Instead you specify a single label for the entire address and you see it only once. You can optionally have no label on an address, but only where there a single address assigned to the contact. The address's label appears inside triangular brackets immediately before the address, which might look something like this: <Home> ContactsEx treats an entire address as a single entity, thus making the maintenance and viewing of addresses more natural. Keyboard Behavior The right softkey will always say Back. Pressing this key returns to the Name Tab. The up and down cursor keys scroll the screen up and down if the addresses consume more than a screenful of space. They have no effect if all of the addresses for the current contact fit on a single screen. The left and right cursor keys are used to move to an adjacent tab. Right moves to the Notes tab, while left move to the #s and Emails tab. Pressing the TALK key will dial the default phone number of the current contact. However, if the that contact doesn't have a phone number, but it does have an email address, then pressing TALK begins a new email message to the default email address. See the documentation on the #s and Emails tab for details on setting default numbers and addresses. Also see the section on Calling Cards for details on how numbers are dialed. The END key sends the program to the background and returns the phone to the idle screen. This differs slightly from pressing the Hide softkey, in that the softkey only sends the program to the background. All other keys have no function in this tab. Menu Functions Add New Address: Allows you to add a new address to the contact. See Address Dialog for details on entering address fields. This option will not appear if you have assigned all 3 addresses supported by the database. If you add a second address to a contact containing an initial address that has no label, a default label will be applied to the existing address and you will be forced to assign a unique label to the second address. Add From Clipboard: This options appears if you have copied an address to the clipboard for duplication (see option below). Like the Add New Address option above it opens the Address Dialog, but it automatically fills the fields with the data from the clipboard, allowing you to easily duplicate addresses from one contact to another. Edit: Allows you to edit an address. If there is only one address assigned to the contact, then this item will immediately edit that address. However, if there are 2 or 3 addresses assigned to the contact, then a sub-menu will appear with the labels for each of the available addresses. Choose the one you wish to edit. Delete: Allows you to delete an address. If there is only one address assigned to the contact, then this item will delete that address. However, if there are 2 or 3 addresses assigned to the contact, then a sub-menu will appear with the labels for each of the available addresses. Choose the one you wish to delete. In any event, you will be prompted to confirm your action. Copy as Text: Copies the full address (in exactly the format show on the screen) to the phone's clipboard. This allows you to paste the address into any other application that offers paste functionality. If there is only one address assigned to the contact, then this item will copy that address. However, if there are 2 or 3 addresses assigned to the contact, then a sub-menu will appear with the labels for each of the available addresses. Choose the one you wish to copy. Copy for Duplication: This also copies the full address to the phone's clipboard, but it uses a format that can be imported using the Add From Clipboard option above. Change Order: When there are 2 or 3 addresses in this contact, you will be able to change their display order. For complete details on using this feature, see Changing Item Order. Exit: This option terminates the program. |
